Temporary Car Insurance and Mail-Order Brides
The first thing I
did before picking up Tom’s truck was to call my insurance
agent and get some temporary car insurance. I was only going
to have the truck for 3 days, so temporary car insurance was
the best way to
protect
Tom’s truck while I used it.
I was driving from California to Oregon to pick up the
mail-order bride that I had sent over from Cambodia. My hair
was freshly trimmed and I was wearing my best shirt as I
pulled up to the bus station where my new bride-to-be was
waiting. It had been a long trip for Alice and she didn’t
look so good as I introduced myself to her. In fact, she
looked nothing like the young beauty in the pictures she
sent me. I gave her half of a hug (I couldn’t get my arms
all the way around her large frame) and introduced myself.
We got in Tom’s truck and headed back south.
When we started back, I was wondering how Alice had gained
so much weight since the pictures were taken. Also, she
didn’t seem to age well over the last couple of months. She
appeared about 20 years older. Oh well, the main thing is
I’ve got me a wife and we are headed home to marital bliss.
Alice started saying “Mucolds, Mucholds” and it wasn’t until
she pointed at some golden arches, that I knew what she was
saying. The poor girl is probably starving after that long
trip and wanted some McDonalds. I pulled into the drive-thru
and she indicated she wanted a Big Mac. I ordered through
the microphone in the menu and Alice started yelling “Sex,
Sex. Sex”. I was embarrassed by my fiancé’s mouth and was
about to apologize to the invisible person behind the
speaker, when Alice held up 6 fingers. Oh, she wants 6 Big
Macs.
We didn’t say much on the drive home. Alice doesn’t speak a
word of English and I’m not even sure what language is used
in Cambodia. Possibly Cambodianese. Anyway, Alice ate those
6 burgers faster than you can say “what’s that smell?” She
then belched twice and fell asleep. I leaned over to get a
long look at my slumbering sweetheart’s face for the first
time. The long trip had left her a little be-shoveled and
the pickle plastered to the side of her face didn’t help.
I’ll have another long look at Alice after she has the
chance to freshen up at home.
When we got home, I dropped off Alice and went to return
Tom’s truck. I called my insurance agent to see if I could
get any refund on my temporary car insurance since I only
drove it 2 ½ days instead of the three I signed up for. He
told me I could not and that my regular policy is going to
go up when I get married. I asked if I could get her
temporary car insurance instead. He said no.
